Bay Area punks Green Day rocked a crowd of thousands during their tour opener at KeyArena Friday night. I wasn’t there, but The Candy’s Steven Friederich was working his tail off in the photo pit and got some great shots (as evidenced by the pictures below). Based off the looks of the set list Green Day played a lot of material off “21st Century Breakdown” and “American Idiot,” which makes sense considering those are the band’s two most recent albums. I was disappointed to see “2,000 Light Years” and “All By Myself” didn’t make it into the set, but I know from experience Billie Joe, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt know how to put on a great show so I am sure concertgoers got enough bang for their buck (check out that pyro shot below) without those songs.
Another thing I know from experience is that the band’s cover of the Isley Brothers’ “Shout” is a whole lot of fun. The Candy’s buddy Gene Stout also knows this and he wrote about it in his review which you can read here.
