Robert Plant and the Band of Joy coming to Seattle

Look out all you geriatric ladies because the Golden God is coming to town.

Robert Plant, he of sexy shirtless Led Zeppelin fame, and his Band of Joy will be coming to the Paramount Theatre April 20. Ticket information and an on-sale date for the show has yet to be announced.

Band of Joy is Plant’s group he originally founded with John Bonham in the pair’s pre-mudshark days. The band — which consists of Plant, Patty Griffin, Byron House, Buddy Miller, Darrell Scott and Marco Giovino — performs Appalachian standards and their latest record, Band of Joy, was Rolling Stone Magazine’s number eight record of 2010. Of course this should be of no surprise to loyal Rolling Stone readers considering Plant fits the demographic for artists Rolling Stone will forever worship no matter what (others in this category include Bono, Springsteen, Dylan and the Rolling Stones). Note to Rolling Stone editors: listen to new music. Just because your readership skews older doesn’t mean every album by a rock legend deserves to be in your Top 10 list. End rant.

Now I can’t personally speak to the quality of the album because I haven’t heard it, so take the previous statement as a slam against RS not Plant and Band of Joy. For all I know the album could be Plant’s best work since Houses of the Holy. Regardless whether Band of Joy is any good you should consider checking this show out just for the chance to see Robert Plant perform since the guy is a living legend and any opportunity to see a legend live on stage is an opportunity not to be missed.
