Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – Wings
Macklemore is teaming up with local award-winning videographer Zia Mohajerjasbi, who he first collaborated on 2009’s “The Town,” to create the video for the first single off his upcoming full-length record, “Wings,” and he needs your help.
The track is a narrative tale that shares Macklemore’s connection with Air Jordans. He makes his own personal story something just about any kid who ever stuck their tongue out at on the playground and pretended to be like Mike can relate to. You can listen to the song above and download it for free over here.
He has grand ambitions for the video and is hoping to raise $10,000 to create what he calls a movie to accompany the song. He’s created a Kickstarter page to raise the money for the video and you can read all about it as well as view a video explaining the project (which for some reason I can’t get to embed on this site) over here.
In case you didn’t click on that link, here are some words about the planned collaboration for the “Wings” video from the Kickstarter page.
This video collaboration endeavors to bring each artist’s existing work to a greater scale. The multi-layered narrative of “WINGS” incorporates the personal story of Macklemore and extends outwards to several generations who hold the Nike Jordans shoe line as a touchstone of their youth. The sweeping, cinematic visuals will be captured with an Arri Alexa, a state of the art digital cinema camera system. Nearly all of the labor, including hundreds of hours of music and video production, will have been volunteered by a large, dedicated and impassioned team of artists who wish to see this project realized.
As I type this at 2:02 a.m. there have been 66 donors contributing $2,745 towards the video. My guess is those numbers will increase a bit by the time this post sees the light of the blogosphere around 9 a.m. The deadline to donate is Feb. 16.
