This weekend: Celebrate the High Dive, win Pearl Jam goodies

The High Dive has a very special place in my heart. It’s been home to multiple Guerrilla Candy parties and parties thrown by the other blog I used to operate whose name I dare not publish for fear of severe legal reprecussions.

This weekend the venue is celebrating six years of operation in Fremont (a.k.a. the self-described Center of the Universe) and as part of the celebrations the High Dive is throwing a weekend of killer shows. Earlier this week I told you about tonight’s show with SHIM, Hobo and the Hounds but that’s not all that’s happening for the High Dive’s birthday. There will be two other special birthday shows at the High Dive and the bills for each show are as follows:

Saturday, April 23: Pickwick, Kelli Schaefer & Legendary Oaks (9:30 p.m., $10)

Sunday, April 24: Virgin, DJ Taco Supreme & Filthy Noise (8 p.m. suggested $20 donation)

Both shows will be a good time and the Sunday night show featuring Virgin, which is another local favorite of mine, will be an extra important show because it is a benefit for a member of the High Dive family and there will be an opportunity to win some pretty cool Pearl Jam items. The suggested  $20 donation will go towards the medical bills of High Dive sound master Rob Sydow. Rob suffered a heart attack last month and along with facing considerable medical bills, he is unable to work while recovering.

Along with your $20 donation helping out Rob, there will also be some cool raffle prizes up for grabs with the raffle proceeds going to help with Rob’s expenses. Some of the items up for raffle include: a Pearl Jam package (photo album, CDss, DVDs, t-shirts, various other PJ goodies), gift certificates to Gainsbourg restaurant, Cinebarre and a Mt. Rainier eco-tourism trip from Evergreen Escapes.

So head out to the High Dive this weekend and have a few drinks, enjoy some good music, celebrate a club that is one of the finer institutions of modern local rock and if you show up Sunday enter to win some cool prizes while helping out a member of the local music scene who is in need.
