For Your Consideration: Kris Orlowski

The first time I saw Kris Orlowski perform I immediately made mental comparisons to Jason Mraz, so it’s fitting that his press materials for his live record, Kris Orlowski and  the Passenger String Quartet at the Fremont Abbey, includes a quote from Mr. Mraz.

Orlowski’s music is a perfect marriage between roots, pop and folk. This makes for songs that can be enjoyed equally with others in the blissful confines of a nightclub and alone in the blissful confines of your headphones. For the Fremont Abbey EP Orlowski gathered some of his friends — Tony Kevin Jr., Curtains For You‘s Matt Gervais and Allen Stone to name a few — and surrounded them with a top-notch cast of like-minded musicians to create a beautifully impressive live record.

The record was released today and to celebrate Orlowski will be performing tonight at Columbia City Theatre. Also performing will be the Tacoma duo The Merry Way and opening the night will be Alessandra Rose of The Kindness Kind. (8 p.m., $10)

Oh, and about that Mraz quote. He had this to say:

“I’m inspired by the sound you’re making among friends. Nice work.”

Nice work indeed. You can download Kris Orlowski and  the Passenger String Quartet at the Fremont Abbey online here.
