TONIGHT: Shim & Pickwick at the Tractor

I’ve written about my love for local 70s rock revivalists SHIM here on Guerrilla Candy before and I’ll make no secret of the fact that I have a massive, unabashed band crush on this band. So it should come as no surprise that I highly recommend checking out their show tonight at the Tractor Tavern ($8, 9:30).

Since you’re now aware of my SHIM crush, instead of waxing poetic about the pure rocktitude and overall awesomeness of the band, I’m going to leave you with the below video from the band’s 2008 Bumbershoot set. I’ll also leave you with the knowlege that the band’s upcoming new record, Medicine Show, is a 14-track album that will give even the most jaded rock fan what Scott Ian refers to as “ear boners.” Look forward to hearing a lot about Medicine Show here on Guerrilla Candy soon.

Also, while SHIM is the main attraction tonight at the Tractor it’s worth getting there early to see both Pickwick and Jason Dodson and the Sons of Warren Oates. Pickwick is fast becoming one of those local buzz bands that’s going to end up headlining venues like the Tractor on a regular basis sooner than you know. Jason Dodson and the Sons of Warren Oates are a side project from, well, Jason Dodson and a few members of the Maldives.

The Maldives side project and Pickwick are worth the price of admission alone, which makes SHIM the sugary sweet icing on what’s already a moist and delicious slice of musical cake. So get there early, drink some beers and enjoy a night of good local music in Ballard.
