EMP to stream its Nevermind tribute concert

Experience Music Project is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Nevermind Tuesday night with a concert packed to the brim with local musicians of note who will be performing songs from the album at the Sky Church along with some guy you may have heard of named Krist Novoselic.

As expected, the concert sold out pretty quick but you can still watch the show live online if you weren’t lucky enough to snag tickets. The evening’s festivities will be streaming at 10:00 p.m. PT at the following sites:

The concert is a benefit for Seattle scene mainstay Susie Tennat (she worked for DGC in Seattle when Nirvana was signed) who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Funds raised go toward medical expenses and family support throughout Susie’s extended cancer treatment.

The show has undergone quite a few changes since it was first announced on Aug. 18. For starters, quite a few musicians have been added including the newly reformed Vendetta Red, Presidents of the USA and Duff McKagan’s Loaded. Also, a post-Nevermind portion of the show has been added during which there will be a special encore set of Nirvana songs played by artists including Young Fresh Fellows, Pigeonhed, Cobirds Unite, The Tripwires, Shelby Earl, Stag, SEACATS, Cali Giraffes, and Tom Price Desert Classic.

I’m especially curious to find out what songs the young bucks in SEACATS perform. My choice for them would be “School” or “Negative Creep” because they are both the polar opposites of  what SEACATS sounds like. I’m also excited to hear the selections chosen by Shelby Earle, whose fantastic and criminally overlooked voice won me over at Bumbershoot, and Pigeonhed considering the group not only consists of Shawn Smith (another criminally overlooked voice) but also Steve Fisk who produced Nirvana’s Blew EP.
