Billy Corgan is bringing The Smashing Pumpkins tour behind its latest album, Oceania, stateside and the tour’s firs U.S. show is happening at Everett’s Comcast Arena Oct. 10. The record is a bit of a return to form for the Pumpkins as it features several songs that sound like throwbacks to the band’s “Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness” days and is easily the best thing the band has done since “Adore.”
For the “Oceania” tour Corgan and the Pumpkins will play two sets. The first will include all of “Oceania” and the second set will feature a mix of hits, rarities, B-sides and deep cuts which will make sure old school fans get to hear the songs they came for. The tour has already had a successful run overseas and along with showcasing the new album, it also features something called “The Orb,” which is a giant orb-like video screen suspended above the band that displays visuals to accompany the band’s performance. The visuals are the brainchild of Sean Evans who helped create the visuals for Roger Waters’ “The Wall” tour and they involve video mapping around the entire orb to create a 3D effect. It’s some pretty cool stuff and it should look pretty killer live. Check out the official video trailer for the tour below to get a brief glimpse of The Orb in action.

Travis – I been following your writings on Seattle music scene for couple of years, and I enjoy reading your articles and tweets as well. I’m a fan of Smashing Pumpkins, please pick me!
Thank you for the chance,
Monica
In high school I had tickets to see Smashing Pumpkins but never got to go. Moms concert rule was someone over 18 had to take me. My older sister refused & Mom had to work. The tickets I waited 3 hours in line for during rare Seattle snow sadly went unused. Maybe this time I can go! 🙂
Smashing pumpkins would be a sweet show to see. I would love to go. Thanks for the potential free tickets. Have an awesome day.
the pumpkins are good, would like to see them.
I think “Oceania” is much better than some of the other more recent stuff. Never got to see ’em, even the last time they were in town. Should be a good, interesting show with the “new and old” set format you mentioned. (…and I’d like to think the orb represents some sort of futuristic pumpkin).
Been a fan since the first time I heard Rocket on the radio back in the ’90s.
I first became a Smashing Pumpkins fan soon after the release of “Siamese Dream”. It quickly became a favorite album for both me and my husband (we had just started dating at the time). Now whenever we hear that album, it takes us back to the early months in our relationship. We’ve been married for almost 17 years! Smashing Pumpkins have always had a special place in our hearts and we would love to see them on this tour!
I will drink you under the table for them!
Smashing Pumpkins!!! I’d love to go, can’t afford the tickets and i’ve seen them once before when they plaid in the parking lot of Qwest field. =)
