In case you didn’t know, despite his success Macklemore has his share of haters. I asked him about his thoughts on the haters during our interview last year and it seemed like they don’t phase him too much.
Watch: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ ‘Thrift Shop’ video
Since he seems pretty indifferent to his detractors I’m guessing Macklemore is going to laugh his ass off just like I did when he watches the above Macklemore parody by MC Type. That is, of course, if he hasn’t already seen the clip.
The song is a spot-on breakdown of Macklemore’s style of rap and it is funny in a good way, not that unintentionally funny way. The MC Type spoke with The Stranger’s Larry Mizell about the song and from his comments it doesn’t necessarily seem like the song’s message is aimed at Macklemore, although it’s really tough not to think of it that way after giving it a listen. This is part of what he had to say:
It’s definitely not about a “who” in particular, rather a type of sub genre in general. I think art is at its best when the message isn’t as obvious or laid out and direct.
When I wrote “Ocean of Emotions” I was intending to take the shtick of emotional hip hop and drive it to the edge of its boundaries to expose how silly it can get.
Those who do it well need not feel attacked by my spoof, because they are not under fire here. It’s their children, their immature rapper spawn, that they birthed with their soul-spilling bars who I really can’t respect. A xerox of xerox.
You can read all of MC Type’s statement over here. In the meantime enjoy the video above because it’s quite funny.
