The original headline for this post was going to be “Why you should attend tonight’s Flight to Mars show,” but then I saw the two gorgeous aluminum prints above which will be raffled off at the show and I changed course.
So, why should you attend tonight’s Flight to Mars show? Because you can win those two prints, that’s why.
The two photos, which you can view in more detail below, were taken by award-winning rocktographer™ Jason Tang and they are two of many awesome Pearl Jam items you can win at the 11th annual Flight to Mars benefit concert at Showbox at the Market. If you’re unfamiliar with Flight to Mars (shame on you!), it’s the UFO tribute band that features Mike McCready, Tim DiJulio, Gary Westlake, Mike Musburger, Ty Bailie and Paul Passereli.

The annual concerts benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America‘s Camp Oasis and Advocacy for Patients with Chronic Illness, which are two non-profits that McCready, who suffers from Chron’s disease, supports. Along with helping out a charitable cause and having the chance to enter a raffle to win some cool Pearl Jam goodies, the concerts are also a very good time. McCready tends to let loose when playing with FTM and he shreds quite differently when playing some UFO instead of “Even Flow,” which amps up the evening’s fun factor quite a bit.
Opening the show is Fleet Foxes offshoot Poor Moon and prior to Poor Moon’s set there will be something called the “Mike McCready & Friends Acoustic Medley.” I have no idea what that exactly entails but I would expect lots of classic rock covers (“Wild Horses” seems to be a fav of Mike’s when he does these sorts of things) and there will likely be lots of familiar faces around to help lend vocal duties (Kim Virant, Star Anna and the rest of the usual suspects from the Hootennany gang). So be sure to get there early so you don’t miss the acoustic medley fun.
Tickets for the 11th annual Flight to Mars concert cost $25. Doors are at 8 and the show starts at 9:00.
