Synergia Northwest creates events that bring together musicians of various skill levels — classical, contemporary, professional, student, etc. — for an evening of unique performances and this year’s event, Music Lessons Matter, is something you won’t want to miss.

The show, which happens Saturday at the Moore Theatre, features multiple Guerrilla Candy favorites in Walking Papers, Shawn Smith and Justin Davis from Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs. Adding to the awesome is the news that Walking Papers, who  are fresh off a successful European tour, will be backed by a full orchestra. Oh, and it’s also worth noting that Mike McCready, who plays guitar on several Walking Papers tracks, will be joining the band for a few songs.

But wait, there’s more.

I know what you’re thinking. What could possibly make this a the event better?

Well, aside from the opportunity to watch McCready and Walking Papers rock with an orchestra, Music Lessons Matter is a benefit for free after-school music programs for elementary school students in the Central District. So you’ll be able to rock out and support a very good cause while you’re at it.

Also, there are plenty of other artists scheduled to perform, including The Voice contestant Mycle WastmananSantana drummer Michael Shrieve’s Spellbinder 7 Year Bitch’s Selene Vigil-Wilk , Blues Traveler’s Brendan Hill, Tess Henley, the Garfield High School drum line  and guitarist Caspian Coberly. And as part of the night’s performances there will be a tribute to the Rolling Stones.

Seeing an orchestra with Walking Papers and Mike McCready, a Rolling Stones tribute, Shawn Smith, a drum line, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer, and several of Seattle’s finest musicians all in the same place in one night definitely gives you plenty of musical bang for your buck. So be sure to make plans to head out to the Moore Saturday night to check out Music Lessons Matter. It’s guaranteed to be an evening filled with great bands and several unique, memorable performances all in support of a good cause.

Synergia Northwest’s Music Lessons Matter happens May 18 at 8 p.m. at the Moore Theater. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased here
