Metallica concerts are always big events and on Sept. 27 a concert film is being released that might properly show the scale of exactly how big the arena-rock shows put on by these titans of heavy metal can be.

The movie, “Metallica Through the Never,” is a 3D IMAX concert film that captures a few career-spanning shows the band performed in Canada last year. A special stage set was built for the concerts and all of the stages of Metallica’s career are represented, which means there are cross tombstones for “Master of Puppets,” the scales of justice for “… And Justice for All,” coffins for “Death Magnetic” and, well, you get the idea. And since every era of Metallica is represented the soundtrack is killer. For proof, here’s “Master of Puppets” from the movie.

There’s also a story involving a roadie who is sent on an errand to retrieve a mystery package for the band thrown in to go along with the concert, but really you’re going to see this movie for the music and the story is just an added bonus. And besides, if any rock band’s show merits the 3D IMAX treatment it’s Metallica, because as mentioned earlier, Metallica concerts are big, loud arena rock spectacles that are perfect for a massive IMAX screen and movie theater sound systems.

The film doesn’t hit theaters until Sept. 27 but you can see it 10 days before it is released for free. If you want to be among the first to check out the music-driven, 3D IMAX film “Metallica Through the Never” then follow this link to download your FREE passes to an advance screening in Seattle.

The screening will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at Regal Thornton Place. Seating is limited and on a first come, first serve basis so please arrive early. Here’s the film’s trailer, poster and a synopsis of the plot from the film’s website to get you amped up for the screening.

SYNOPSIS:

Metallica Through the Never is a groundbreaking music-driven 3D motion picture event.  The film combines a spectacular never-before-seen live-performance by Metallica created exclusively for the film and a suspenseful narrative to produce a bracing, raw and visceral cinematic experience.

Emerging young star Dane DeHaan (A Place Beyond the Pines, Kill Your Darlings, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 & 3) portrays Trip, a young roadie sent on an urgent mission that turns into a surreal adventure, while Metallica performs its most iconic songs during a roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena.

Metallica Through the Never features the most elaborate live-performance stage ever built and was filmed with state-of-the-art 3-D photography captured using up to 24 cameras simultaneously. Metallica, one of the most popular and influential rock bands in history, is James Hetfield (vocals, guitar), Lars Ulrich (drums), Kirk Hammett (guitar, background vocals) and Robert Trujillo (bass, background vocals).  The film is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimród Antal (Predator, Kontroll) and produced by Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth).
