All the cool ways you can support Pearl Jam’s The Home Shows (so far)

Next month Pearl Jam will perform two sold-out concerts at Safeco Field. The band has dubbed these events “The Home Shows,” and like many of the things Pearl Jam does, there is a cause attached to the concerts.

The band is performing the concerts to raise money to help with Seattle and King County’s homelessness crisis. According to the most recent count, which was conducted in May, there are 12,112 homeless people in King County, a majority of which are in the Seattle area, making it one of the largest homeless populations in the country.

Pearl Jam aims to raise $10 million for homelessness causes through the concerts in addition to the $1 million of its own money the band has donated to the issue. The shows are expected to draw a total attendance of 100,000 which will make them the biggest concert events in Seattle since the Rolling Stones performed at the Kingdome in 1981. The large crowds, which will include thousands of fans flocking to Seattle from around the world, provides the band with an excellent platform to drum up support the cause.

Ticket revenue is one way the band is raising money. But Pearl Jam has also partnered with several community organizations to help meet their $10 million goal. Some of those partners are offering support by making limited-edition products to commemorate The Home Shows with a percentage of the proceeds going to support homelessness causes.

Since there are so many partners involved, each offering a unique way to celebrate The Home Shows, it made sense to collect them in one place. So here is a limited list of some of the ways you can support the mission of The Home Shows while getting something cool in return.

Buy some bourbon

Local distillery Heritage Distilling has made a limited batch of The Home Shows bourbon. The brown sugar bourbon cost $35 a bottle with $20 of each bottle going towards Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy Foundation. The special batch bourbon will be available Aug. 7 and can be pre-ordered online.

Blow some glass

Glassbaby is a company that makes hand-blown glass candle votives. The company is offering glass-blowing experiences in an attempt to raise $200,000 for The Home Shows. The experience includes getting to create your own bowl, float or paperweight and you also get Pearl Jam’s “Given to Fly” Glassbaby votive and a Pearl Jam guitar pick.

Buy a tee-shirt

Back in 1992 Pearl Jam played one of its biggest concerts in Seattle at Magnunson Park. The concert, dubbed “Drop in the Park,” was free and seemingly everyone in my high school had the iconic Drop in the Park” shirt. The band has loosely recreated that design with the Space Needle Drop shirt for The Home Shows. So while you may not have been able to get tickets to The Home Shows you can still get the shirt from the shows and pretend like you where there.

Buy a concert ticket

Pearl Jam has once again teamed up with the local Entercom rock radio stations 107.7 FM The End (KNDD) and 99.9 FM (KISW) to raise money for the Vitalogy Foundation through the sales of tickets to the stations’ annual Summer Camp and Pain in the Grass concerts respectively. Summer Camp is a two-day event at Marymoor Park featuring Awolnation, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Robert DeLong, Elle King, Smokey Brights, Manchester Orchestra, Moon Taxi, Twin Shadow and more. It takes place Aug. 11 & 12 and you can find details here.

KISW’s Pain in the Grass is a three-day event at White River Amphitheater and it features Alice in Chains, Bush, Stone Temple Pilots, Slayer, Avenged Sevenfold, Prophets of Rage, The Cult, Lamb of God, Anthrax, Walking Papers, Three Days Grace, Steel Panther and more. It takes place Aug. 24-26 and you can find full details here. Two dollars from every ticket sold to Pain in the Grass and Summer Camp go directly to The Vitalogy Foundation.

Book a badass hotel room

The Edgewater Inn is the most rock & roll hotel in Seattle It has quite a history, from the Beatles going fishing out their window to Led Zeppelin doing some rather debaucherous and unspeakable things with a shark. And now you can rent my teenage bedroom a Pearl Jam suite with 10 percent of the room cost going to help the Home Shows fund. The room comes complete with Pearl Jam posters, road cases, a turntable, Pearl Jam’s discography on vinyl and more.

Go to a baseball game

Friday, July 20 the hopefully playoff-bound Seattle Mariners are hosting the Chicago White Sox on Pearl Jam Fireworks night. Members of the band will be there to thrown out the ceremonial first pitch and after the game there will be a 15-minute fireworks display set to the music of Pearl Jam. If you buy tickets using this link, a portion of the ticket sales will go to the Home Shows fund and you’ll get a cool Pearl Jam Mariners tee-shirt too.

Buy some beer

Georgetown Brewery, makers of the Seattle bar staple Manny’s Pale Ale and many other excellent brews, has teamed up with Pearl Jam to create The Home Show Seattle Ale. It will be available on tap at the Seattle concerts and also available in six packs in Seattle area grocery stores on July 20. Two dollars from the sale of every six pack will go to Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy Foundation.

Bid on cool memorabilia

Pearl Jam regularly offers up limited-edition band memorabilia and merch that’s often hard to get on its eBay page, with the proceeds going to the Vitalogy Foundation. This month all proceeds from the Vitalogy Foundation’s weekly Friday eBay auctions will benefit The Home Shows fund.

Buy some wine

If bourbon or beer aren’t your alcohol of choice you can choose to go with Eddie Vedder’s favorite alcoholic elixir to support the cause. Pearl Jam has teamed up with The Underground Wine Project to release a limited batch of wine called Home X Away. Complete details of the project are expected to be released later this month. UPDATE: The collection of four bottles of wine cost $150 and only 450 sets were bottled. Unfortunately they sold out in less than 15 minutes when the collection went on sale.

Provide a donation (which will be matched!)

If you don’t want anything in return for giving money to the cause then you can place a donation at the link above. All the donations will be matched up to $900,000.

Buy a candy bar

Theo Chocolates is making a special 70% dark chocolate bar for The Home Shows which will cost $4.99. A portion of the proceeds from sales of this surely delicious treat will go to the Home Shows fund.

Volunteer your time

Lastly, if you don’t have money to spare you can always donate your time to help. United Way of King County has set up specific projects that groups of Pearl Jam fans can help with on Aug. 9, the day between the two Safeco concerts.
