New Chris Cornell music coming with massive 'When Bad Does Good' box set

Chris Cornell‘s musical legacy will be celebrated later this year when a massive career-spanning box set called “When Bad Does Good” is released Nov. 16.

The 63-song s box set is the first career retrospective release for Cornell’s music and it features nearly all of his projects including Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave and his solo material. Along with featuring well-known songs like Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman” and Temple of the Dog’s “Hunger Strike,” the set also collects Cornell’s many soundtrack contributions, one-off live collaborations and the new song “When Bad Does Good.”

Some of the rarities include a duet with his daughter Toni covering “Redemption Song,” a duet with Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) on “Wild World” and a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” with Carlos Santana. Soundgarden’s first comeback song “Live to Rise,” which was a part of “Marvel’s Avengers” soundtrack also makes an appearance and the cover of “Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun)” by M.A.C.C., which is the one-off project of Cornell with Matt Cameron, Jeff Ament and Mike McCready is on the first disc. The latter track was recorded for the 1993 “Stone Free” Jimi Hendrix tribute album.

Some solo material highlights include Cornell’s live mashup of Metallica’s “One” with U2’s song of the same name and covers of John Lenon’s “Imagine,” The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life” and the Prince-penned “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The box set also includes previously unreleased live recordings from Temple of the Dog’s only tour (including songs from the band’s shows at the Paramount) as well as selections from Audioslave’s 2005 concert in Cuba and several live Soundgarden songs.

News of the box set’s impending release broke when a listing for the collection appeared on multiple international Amazon sites. The listing has since been removed but it is still posted on a French retailer. The Facebok

In other Chris Cornell news, next month a life-sized bronze statue of Cornell will be unveiled outside of MoPOP on Oct. 7. Members of Soundgarden and Cornell’s wife will be at the event. The unveiling is free and open to the public. Additionally, the Twitter and Facebook accounts for Chris Cornell have been updated with a banner that includes #WhenBadDoesGood” and the date Sept. 21, which is when an official announcement of the release is expected to be made.
