Brandi Carlile’s Soundgarden collaboration coming on Record Store Day

The annual retail holiday that is Record Store Day is happening next month and with it will come hundreds of limited-edition vinyl releases.

According to a UK listing of Record Store Day releases in Long Live Vinyl magazine, one of those limited-edition albums is a collaboration between Brandi Carlile and the surviving members of Soundgarden. The two-song, colored 12″ release features “Black Hole Sun” on one side and “Searching With My Good Eye Closed” on the other side.

The two tracks feature Carlile on vocals with Ben Shepard, Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron in their usual Soundgarden roles as bassist, guitarist and drummer respectively. The tracks were recorded at London Bridge Studios in Shoreline, which is where Carlile and her songwriting partners first met the members of Soundgarden two decades ago. The studio is also where Soundgarden recorded “Louder Than Love.”

The release has yet to be officially announced, however, last year Carlile posted a snippet of the recording session on her Instagram account and since then fans have been waiting for the release.

A Record Store Day release date for the collaboration makes sense considering last month Carlile was named Record Store Day Ambassador for the annual event. To commemorate her involvement select record stores will sell Brandi Carlile shirts featuring artwork that resembles Soundgarden’s iconic “Badmotorfinger” album cover.

Check out the “Brandimotofinger” shirt design and the Instagram clip of the studio recording below. You can get a copy of the collaboration as well as a shirt at your local independent record store on April 18.
