It’s been a while since I sat back and crafted these words and stepped away from Guerrilla Candy for an undetermined amount of time. But it’s not like I’ve been slacking during my sabbatical. I’ve been busy enjoying the joys of parenthood, and honestly being a dad is pretty much the best thing ever (sorry Pearl Jam) and I haven’t missed the grind of operating a successful music blog all too much.
But lately I’ve been feeling the need to write and be expressive about music and other topics. So I am returning to Guerrilla Candy and will use this site for my creative outlet to share some of those thoughts. However, I’m going to do things a bit differently then they’ve been done in the past.
So what does this all mean? Nothing really aside from me returning to shout my thoughts into the vast chasm of Internet on a semi-regular basis.
How regular is semi-regular? I don’t know. Things like life, parenthood, work and other interests have swayed me away from writing about music and they likely will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. This means I’ll definitely be writing less frequently than I have in the past but I plan to keep the site updated regularly.
Also, as a bit of a personal experiment, I’ll be writing a bit more loosely than I have in the past. You’ll notice I filed this under the shiny new “Blog” section of the site. That should give you some indication of how I’d like for my written voice to change in Guerrilla Candy’s new chapter.
As for what topics I plan to write about, well, that won’t change too much from what I’ve previously delivered.
I’ll definitely be writing about my favorite iconic local legacy artists. I’ll also share my thoughts about some of my current favorite local and non-local artists and help spread the word about the projects some of my creative friends are working on. There’s an Iceland section of this site that is woefully neglected too and I find my thoughts constantly drifting back toward that magical land of fire and ice so you can expect some musings on Iceland every now and then.
Continuing with using the resurrection of this site as a form of personal experimentation and expression, I will be tossing in the occasional posts about life as a music-loving dad, commentary about the state of music journalism and my experiences as a music journalist and other things like my renewed love for vinyl and how it’s constantly at odds with my wallet.
You’ll still be getting a good dose of local music news, concert and album reviews, photo essays and the occassional artist interviews, and you’ll also likely be getting some dad talk, Icelandic musings and commentary about my vinyl addiction.
And that just about covers everything.
So welcome to Guerrilla Candy version 1.5 and as a wise man once said, “meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”
