Bumbershoot unveils 2024 arts programming: Cats, comedy, wigs and free-range artists

It’s that time of year again. The time of year when summer music festivals begin announcing their lineups in order to give us all something to look forward to that will help get us out of the final dull, dark, cold days of winter.

While several of the major local music fests have announced their programming, the big daddy of them all, Bumbershoot, hasn’t been as revealing. That is until last week when organizers announced the arts lineup for the 51st annual Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival.

New additions to the arts portion of the festival include a Bigfoot deepfake contest, AR and VR installations, a wig farm, roaming “free-range” artists and the return of comedy to the festival. Returning from last year are the fashion district, Bumbermania! wrestling, breakdancing and the highly popular cat circus.

Last year more than 40,000 people attended the festival. Its offerings were considered a return to the roots of the festival, which had a several year sabbatical that was in part caused by financial woes. In 2023 the festival was heavily supported by Amazon, which provided organizers with money to help subsidize ticket costs in order to entice people to return to the festival.

This year’s earlybird tickets are currently on sale. Single-day tickets are $70 and two-day passes cost $125. The earlybird pricing increased by 40 percent for single-day tickets and roughly 14 percent for two-day passes compared to last year’s ticket prices.
