Check out Caspian Coberly at the Skylark

Caspian Coberly has been around the local scene for a hot minute and has a few records out under his name, but I became aware of him and his sick six-string skills watching him shred in Matt Cameron’s Wipers cover band Is This Real. While it was fun to watch Cameron front a band, and the music was great, it was Coberly who stole the show with his guitar mastery. His fiery, focused playing combined with his showmanship and charisma made him impossible to look away from.

But my endorsement isn’t the only accoladed notch in his guitar strap. Local icons Alan White (RIP), Duff McKagan, Mike McCready and Jerry Cantrell all have seen him play and all walked away impressed. Also, he’s recorded with the likes of Money Mark and Mario C, both of which any hip-hop head knows are from the Beastie Boys school of rock. And speaking of hip-hop, he recently recorded an instrumental for none other than Madlib.

So yeah, Caspian Coberly. You should check him out Friday night at the Skylark. He’s good. If he’s impressed all those big names, just imagine what sort of impression he will leave on you.
