Sometimes, if you go to enough shows, you catch a star on the rise. That’s what it felt like Friday night when Portland buzz band Glitterfox delivered a blistering 60-minute set to an adoring sold-out crowd at the Tractor.
The group, consisting of singer Solange Igoa , guitarist Andrea Walker, bassist Eric Stalker and drummer Blaine Heinonen, were in good spirits throughout the show and their blend of Americana-meets-classic-rock was a perfect pairing with the renowned Ballard venue.
It’s impossible to hear Igoa’s voice and not immediately think of Stevie Nicks and the comp is not only high praise, but it’s dead-on accurate. Her voice effortlessly soared through the room, sounding like Stevie Nicks in her prime. Her vocals combined with the full-bodied Americana-rock sound crated by the rest of the band, gives the band a southern-fried Fleetwood Mac vibe.
Highlights of the night were the band’s breakthrough single “TV,” which was followed by the pounding rhytm of “Drive” and the Pixies-esque “La Da Da” complete with a searing guitar breakdown by Walker. Other standouts from the set included “Kentucky Night,” a song Walker wrote about the first time they saw fireflies, and penultimate song “Married to the Ground” with its climatic swelling.
The band has a new full-length record coming out on Jealous Butcher Records in July and when they tour behind that album expect to see them headlining clubs, and maybe even small theaters in some markets. In the meantime, you have two more chances to catch these rising stars before they potentially break big when they perform at Nectar Feb. 28 and March 1 opening for ALO.
