Dave Abbruzzese resurfaces with Portland band Risley

Dave Abbruzzese is a name that makes ears perk up in certain circles. Those circles of course being circles of Pearl Jam fans.

The former Pearl Jam drummer sat behind the skins for the band’s tour for “Ten” and recording of its follow-up records “Vs.” and “Vitalogy.” Reportedly, he was uncerimoniously kicked out of the band because he wanted the group to be rock stars in the Van Halen meaning of the word, whereas Eddie Vedder wanted the group to be rock stars of the Fugazi variety.

Not much has been heard from Abbruzzese since his departure, although he is beloved by fans and many consider him to be the best drummer in Pearl Jam’s storied 34-year history. That is not much has been heard from him until last month, when he resurfaced in the most unlikely of places, drumming on a track by Portland indie band Risley.

The track, “Walls,” is off the band’s latest album “Umbra Penumbra” and is the only song on the album with a contribution from Abbruzzese. His presence is unmistakable on both the song and the video, which you can watch below.
