The Postal Service, Death Cab, R.E.M. and more contribute to L.A. benefit comp

A star-studded compilation that will benefit communities ravaged by the Los Angeles wildfires will be made available for one day only on Bandcamp later this week.

The compilation, “Good Music to Lift Up Los Angeles,” features songs by 90 artists. Some of the acts featured include R.E.M., The Hold Steady, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, My Morning Jacket, Interpol and King Gizard and the Lizard Wizard. In addition to those names, there’s a lot of local talent on the comp too including Modest Mouse, Mudhoney, SYML, Perfume Genius, The Dip and The Postal Service and Death Cab For Cutie who are contributing their cover of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence.”

The album is being released by the organization Good Music. It will cost $20.25 and all of Good Music’s proceeds from the album will go back to communities impacted by the Los Angeles fires via California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund and the LA Regional Food Bank. Bandcamp is donating 100% of their share of the proceeds to MusiCares.

This isn’t Good Music’s first foray into benefit compilations. They previously released the “Good Music to Avert the Collapse of American Democracy” compilation series in 2020 which raised more than $600,000 between its two installments and the 2022 release “Good Music To Ensure Safe Abortion Access To All” raised more than $230,000 to support abortion access. All of those titles were also only available for one day.
