Minus the Bear return with reunion tour, two local shows

There are a lot of underrated bands that have come out of Seattle in recent years, and for my money one of the most underrated are math rockers Minus the Bear.

The musical group of highly refined pirates were scene veterans and one of the stars on local label Suicide Squeeze Records before they announced an indefinite hiatus in 2018. Last week that hiatus ended when the band was revealed to be a part of the Best Friends Forever Festival in Las Vegas where they will perform their album “Menus el Oso” to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Today the band revealed a full slate of tour dates to celebrate Menus el Oso beginning on Oct 4 in Portland and ending with two dates at the Showbox at the Market on Nov. 28 and 29. Tickets for the shows go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

In a press release announcing the tour, guiarist and MITB co-founder had this to say about honoring the album:

“Menos el Oso put us on a trajectory that none of us were expecting. There is a “before ‘Pachuca Sunrise’ video” moment in time, and then there is an “after ‘Pachuca Sunrise’ video” moment in time. It seemed like once people heard that song, and saw that video, everyone went straight to Limewire, Napster, Soulseek, BitTorrent, etc. and shared the album immediately. Celebrating the twentieth anniversary of something this monumental in our lives is a gift. Having the chance to appreciate it with our fans, families and fellow bandmates while we are all alive and kicking is an opportunity I can’t wait to embrace.”

Drummer Joshua Sparks added:

“These songs are like having a really nice car in the garage… it’d be a shame not to take them out for a drive every now and then.”

To accompany the news, the band released a video for the track “Drilling.” Watch it below.
