SPJ honors Ear Candy’s A&E coverage

The Society of Professional Journalists held its annual Northwest Excellence in Journalism awards banquet Saturday evening. The awards honored the best in journalism throughout the five state region of Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. SPJ judges awarded Ear Candy with a first place trophy for online coverage of arts, entertainment and lifestyles.

The winning entry was the coverage of Pearl Jam’s 2009 KeyArena concerts. Ear Candy founder Travis Hay also won a third place award in the same category for his review of Sub Pop’s Bleach reissue that he wrote for Crosscut. The awards mark the second first place SPJ trophy for Ear Candy. In 2008 Ear Candy was named best specialized blog by SPJ.
